Question
In Matthew 24:40 and 42, is this what is called "the
Rapture"? I quote, "Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be
taken, and the other left. Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour
your Lord doth come."
Answer
No, this is not the Rapture. Every reference to Christ’s coming in
the Gospels is when He comes to establish the Kingdom for 1,000 years.
In Verse 40 the ones taken are the lost spoken of in Matthew
25:41, "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from
me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his
angels". The others left are the saved that go on into the
Kingdom. Notice Matthew: 25:31 and 34. "When the Son of man shall come
in his glory...then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: Then
shall the King (Christ) say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye
blessed of my father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the
foundation of the world."
At the Rapture, just the opposite of the above takes place. I
Thessalonians 4:16,17 gives us the record. "For the Lord himself shall
descend from heaven with a shout...Then we which are alive and remain
shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the
Lord in the air..." Notice in Matthew that the ones taken are the
lost. At the Rapture, the ones taken (caught up) are the saved.
In Matthew, the saved are left to go on into the Kingdom. In I
Thessalonians, the ones left are the lost who go on into the
7-year Tribulation Period, known also as the 70th Week of Daniel.
The next event on God’s timetable is the Rapture when every Christian
will disappear in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye (I Corinthians
15:50,51). Then, seven years of God’s wrath upon mankind will commence,
covered in Revelation, Chapters 6-19. Following this, Christ returns to
set up His Kingdom. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be
saved". (Acts 16:31.) |
